Practical Training on Foreign Economic Activity and IP Protection for a Client

Our team conducted a training session for a major pharmaceutical company, Pentax Medical, as part of an event in St. Petersburg.

Senior Lawyer Maxim Vaskin and Lawyer Dmitry Martynov focused on two of our key practice areas: foreign economic activity (FEA) and intellectual property (IP) protection.

FEA and Cross‑Border Settlements

Maxim Vaskin covered alternative mechanisms for cross‑border settlements used in practice, including cross‑border netting with assignment of claims, set‑off of mutual claims, and others.

Intellectual Property and Pharmaceuticals

Dmitry Martynov presented an overview of the fundamental aspects of IP regulation in Russia, including:

  • the current status of parallel imports;
  • approaches to trademark protection;
  • criteria for classifying products as counterfeit and enforcement practices.

A separate block was devoted to the pharmaceutical industry, drawing on our practice’s accumulated experience. Available rights protection tools and typical strategies of rights holders in the medical devices market were discussed.

Conducting such trainings helps structure the knowledge of client teams and discuss practical cases in light of current regulations and law enforcement practice.
